Ellen Johnson, MA is an LPC Intern supervised by Jennifer Buffalo, LPC-S, LMFT at Luminary Counseling, PLLC. She received a BS in Human Development and Family Sciences from the University of Texas, and completed a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Seminary of the Southwest (CACREP).
Ellen works from a relationship-focused, person-centered approach. She has a diverse background of work with experience in counseling, spiritual direction, and technology startups. Ellen appreciates the unique story and experience of each client. She will meet you wherever you currently are in your journey of healing. It’s important to Ellen to honor your worldview and background within the framework of counseling. Clients appreciate her warm and non-judgemental demeanor, as well as her relational style of counseling. She has worked with clients who experience(d): anxiety, depression, sexual assault and abuse, family violence, trauma, identity stress, and relationship stressors. Ellen also loves working with clients who want to improve their self-confidence and communication skills.
Ellen believes that therapy works through a variety of means, but primarily through a combination of the therapeutic relationship, your motivation to work toward change, the counselor’s therapeutic knowledge, insights you gain about yourself, and new thinking patterns and behaviors that are practiced in session. Ellen incorporates various styles of learning, such as conversational, mindfulness, exploring feelings, behavioral, and helping the nervous system integrate change. Ellen is available for individual clients, relationship counseling, couples and family work, dating coaching, and brief consultations.
