ABOUT THIS GROUP
Losing a partner changes everything, leaving an emptiness that touches every part of life.
With their death, you lost a life you built together: routines, shared language, the future you planned, the person who knew your whole story. The grief you are carrying is real. It is heavy. And you do not have to carry it alone.
Luminary Counseling, PLLC invites you to participate in our complimentary grief support group designed specifically for adults who have experienced the death of a partner. Whether your loss was recent or some time ago, you are welcome here — exactly as you are.
Our group is grounded in J. William Worden’s Tasks of Mourning — a widely respected framework that understands grief as an active process, not a passive series of stages. Each month, we gather around one of four tasks to help facilitate healing: Accepting, Processing, Adjusting, and Connecting.
This is an open group, meaning you may join at any session. You are invited to participate as little or as much as feels right. No commitment is required.
HOW IT WORKS
Monthly sessions, online.
All sessions are held online via secure video conference — no travel required. Wherever you are in Texas, you are welcome to participate.
After registering, you'll receive everything you need to join. We send emails monthly with a reminder, handouts and a link for the meeting. Cameras are encouraged to help build trust and connection, but whether you choose to be on camera or participate via chat, your contributions are equally appreciated.

THE FOUR SESSIONS
Worden’s Tasks of Mourning
Grief is not something that simply happens to you — it is something you move through actively. Our four rotating sessions are each anchored in one of Worden’s Tasks, offering a framework for healing that meets you wherever you are.
Session 1
1. Accepting
Beginning the journey — from shock to acknowledgment
- Accept the reality of the loss at a deep, emotional level
- Name and normalize disbelief, numbness, and shock
- Begin articulating the reality of the loss in your own words
GROUP ACTIVITY
Two Truths. Members write what tells them their partner is gone alongside the moments they still forget — holding both sides of loss without forcing resolution.
Session 2
2. Processing
Turning toward the ache — allowing grief to move through you
- Identify how grief pain manifests — emotionally, physically, spiritually
- Reduce shame around the intensity or variability of grief
- Practice simple strategies for being with painful emotion
GROUP ACTIVITY
The Grief Map. Members draw a body outline and mark where grief lives in them today — adding words for physical sensations and emotional textures around the edges.
Session 3
3. Adjusting
Rebuilding identity, roles, and daily life
- Identify external, internal, and spiritual adjustments you are navigating
- Normalize identity disruption and role loss after partner bereavement
- Explore how you are beginning to re-author your sense of self
GROUP ACTIVITY
The Identity Inventory. Members explore three columns: “Who I was with them,” “Who I am now,” and “Who I am becoming” — with permission for the third to be a question mark.
Session 4
4. Connecting
Carrying them forward — love that does not require letting go
- Understand the difference between “moving on” and carrying love forward
- Identify how your partner lives on in who you are today
- Honor your relationship through shared memory and meaningful ritual
GROUP ACTIVITY
Sharing Memories. Members bring a photo, a comfort object, or a memory of their partner to share — honoring the love that continues even after loss.
We know that grief has its own timeline. If you aren’t ready to join a support group quite yet, that is okay. When you feel ready, this space will be waiting. Simply being here is enough.
